BACK TO SCHOOL AT NEXTON: A NEW SCHOOL YEAR, A NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND MORE

Can you believe it? Another school year is already in full swing, and here at Nexton, we couldn’t be more excited to dive into everything this year has in store! Whether your little ones are starting their first day of elementary school or gearing up for their final year of high school, there’s always something new and exciting to look forward to in our education-focused community.

If you caught the buzz last December, you’ll know that Nexton Middle School officially broke ground in a memorable ceremony (complete with a sweet serenade from the Nexton Elementary School choir!). We’re thrilled to share that construction is moving right along, and Berkeley County School District is hard at work to ensure doors open by fall 2026!

NEXTON MIDDLE SCHOOL: A NEW ERA FOR EDUCATION IN NEXTON

Nexton Middle School is set to be a game-changer, bringing another top-tier Berkeley County public school right to the heart of our community. The best part? Our Nexton kiddos will be able to continue their educational journey close to home. This new school will build on the district's impressive track record for academics, extracurriculars, and that “never-stop-learning” mindset we love so much.

Sitting on over 30 acres near the intersection of Nexton Parkway and Midtown Avenue, the middle school will be perfectly walkable from anywhere in Midtown and even bike-able from Brighton Park Village. Just imagine your kids riding their bikes or strolling to school every morning—it’s the kind of community-centered life that makes Nexton so special.

The brand-new facility will cater to grades 6-8 and complement Nexton’s existing educational opportunities for learners of all ages, from preschoolers to professionals. And with space for up to 900 students, it’s going to be a hub of learning, creativity, and connection.

Once open, Nexton Middle School will provide students with access to exceptional academics and a variety of extracurriculars. From innovative programs to the nationally-ranked robotics club, it’s the kind of place where your children will thrive. And with 35 acres of gorgeous campus space and cutting-edge facilities, the school is set to continue Berkeley County School District’s tradition of excellence, innovation, and creativity.

BCSD Superintendent Anthony Dixon couldn’t have said it better:

“This school will be a thriving piece of our community. With walkable and bikeable access, students, teachers, and administrators will fill these hallways with energy, fostering an environment where student outcomes continue to soar.”

NEXTON ELEMENTARY: A LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE

While we eagerly await the opening of Nexton Middle School, let’s not forget the incredible learning already happening at Nexton Elementary. From shaping young minds to fostering creativity and critical thinking, this school is paving the way for lifelong success.

At Nexton Elementary, every student receives their own personal tech device, making sure they’re ready to tackle the digital world. Plus, with hands-on STEM activities like coding, 3D printing, and engineering modules, this school goes beyond the basics to inspire innovation and problem-solving. With a vibrant Robotics Team, Honors Chorus, and even a student-developed Nature Club, there’s something for every child to dive into. And thanks to their new MakerSpace lab, students are constantly creating, collaborating, and developing skills for the real world.

But it’s not just about academics. Nexton Elementary places a strong emphasis on character education and community involvement. Programs like Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) help create an environment where students can thrive inside and outside the classroom, ensuring they grow into well-rounded individuals.

LIFE MADE SIMPLE IN NEXTON: LEARNING FROM DAY ONE

Education at Nexton doesn’t stop when the school bell rings. From toddlers to teens (and even lifelong learners), our community is built for growth, exploration, and learning at every stage of life. With the addition of preschools like KinderCare and The Goddard School right in the neighborhood, families have access to top-notch early education without leaving Nexton. And as your children grow, they can seamlessly transition from elementary school to middle school and on to high school - all within easy reach.

THE NEXTON ADVANTAGE: LEARNING THROUGH COMMUNITY

At Nexton, learning isn’t confined to classrooms - it happens everywhere. Our winding trails, parks, and green spaces provide the perfect setting for curious minds to explore. Whether it’s an impromptu nature lesson during a walk or discovering the wonders of the outdoors in our own backyard, education is all around us.

Our community is designed to nurture creativity, growth, and a love for learning in every corner. With award-winning schools and a dedication to excellence, Nexton isn’t just a place to live - it’s a place to grow, to learn, and to become part of something bigger. Whether your kids are just starting their academic journey or preparing for middle school, Nexton is here to support their potential every step of the way.

HERE’S TO A NEW SCHOOL YEAR

As we embrace another school year, we’re reminded that learning is a lifelong journey. Here’s to a year full of growth, exploration, and endless possibilities for our students, teachers, and families at Nexton. We can’t wait to see what this year has in store!
