Cool down this summer with our favorite ice cream spots
The first steamy southern summer days are upon us, and that means time well spent on the Charleston region's abundant beaches, boating and floating down our rivers, and of course, relaxing at Nexton Swim Club. But one of our favorite ways to cool down is even sweeter (and often coated in chocolate) - ice cream! Take the kids, your SO, or meet up with friends at one of our favorite spots below.
Guerin’s Pharmacy – The oldest pharmacy in the state, Guerin’s has been serving Summerville from their Hutchinson Square location since 1871. Marvel at the tin ceiling, old-school candy counter, and original soda fountain. Then ask the kind folks there, known for exceptional customer service, for a malt or a scoop of your favorite ice cream as you take a step back in time. It’s more than a great place to get a treat – Guerin’s is a treasure. Make it a regular stop this summer.
Ye Ole Fashioned – When is the last time you had a traditional banana split? If you’re like us, it’s been too long! Change that with a visit to Ye Ole Fashioned, located at 1205 N. Main Street and 602 Old Trolley Road. You’ll also find over 30 ice cream flavors to choose from, which they’ll whip up however you like – sprinkled, with chocolate syrup, in a sundae or as a milkshake. The retro-inspired spot also features a full menu of kid-approved foods, like burgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, and even mac-n-cheese bites.
Tastee Freeze – Just minutes from Nexton, Tastee Freeze’s call to fame is its classic soft serve, brought to you in a cone, milkshake or a Freeze (like a Blizzard). Our favorite way to enjoy the creamy goodness? Dipped in chocolate, of course! Take advantage of the drive-thru when time is short or you have a car full of eager energetic kiddos to wrangle.
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream – Take a break as your exploring Charleston, or make a special stop on the way to the beach, at Jeni’s. This King Street scoop shop uses Fair Trade ingredients and zero synthetic flavorings, dyes, or off-the-shelf mixes. A vast variety of flavors, like Gooey Butter Cake, Juniper and Lemon Curd, and Goat Cheese with Red Cherries, will please the foodies and the picky eaters in your life. See the eclectic list here, and after you visit, be sure to send us a review of your favorite flavors!
In just a few weeks, one of our very favorite holidays will be here: National Ice Cream Day. To celebrate, we’ve invited Ben & Jerry's ice cream truck out to the community. Cool down with us at the Greeting House July 15, 2pm to 4pm with a free scoop - on us!
Join our growing Summerville, SC community – located in the midst of Charleston’s most energetic growth, and close to all the summer fun you can imagine. See available homes today.
