Haul Out The Holly: Holidays In Charleston
There's a lot about the Lowcountry that makes it a great place to celebrate the holidays: the typically mild weather, the historic backdrop, the spectacular food options. But we think what makes the Charleston region really special for the holidays is genuine, old-fashioned southern hospitality. Below, some not-to-miss events if you're in town visiting or lucky enough to call this beautiful place home.
Holiday Festival of Lights. A classic that's fun for the whole family, the Holiday Festival of Lights at James Island County Park starts with a driving tour of dazzling light displays. And it's more than lights - park the car and explore some of this year's special treats. Marvel at a sculpture made from 50 tons of sand, ride the holiday train, enjoy yummy treats from Santa's Sweet Shoppe, and even visit with the big man in red himself. Make it an annual tradition.
Charleston Strolls Holiday Walking Tour. Peek into the heart of historic Charleston on a walking tour designed to show off the spirit of the holiday. Visit Four Corners of Law and The Charleston Battery, see private neighborhoods decked in their holiday finest, and learn from an expert about old Charlestowne. The finale lands you at beautiful Mills House Hotel to enjoy holiday refreshments and camaraderie. Learn more.
Children's Village at Magnolia Plantation. Open daily until December 31, Magnolia Plantation's Children's Holiday Village starts with a joyful stroll down Candy Cane Lane. Then, visit Santa's Workshop, taste test at the Candy Factory, admire the Gingerbread House, visit the Elf Bunk House, and more! Each weekend features a special event. This Sunday, December 17th, celebrate an Old Fashioned Christmas with carolers, face painting, and old-fashioned holiday crafts. Details available here.
Holiday Dinner Cruise with Charleston Harbor Tours. See Charleston lit up for the holidays from a different angle. Aboard the Carolina Queen you and yours will dance to a mix of joyful holiday favorites and Gullah spirituals while savoring a gourmet buffet dinner.
