Not to miss Charleston-region events in October

Ah, fall in the south. When the temperatures let up ever-so slightly, a cool breeze shakes the turning leaves to the ground, oyster-roast season starts to pick up steam, and annual harvest and Halloween celebrations abound. This year is no exception. Below, some of our favorite ways to soak up all the fall fun the Charleston region has to offer!

Vroom, Vroom. If you’re into muscle cars, antique cars, or just enjoy a sunny day with great entertainment and even friendlier people, join us this Saturday for the 5th Annual Dream Machines Open Auto Show. The event is back at Nexton for the second-year in a row, and we can’t wait for all the great vendors, incredible cars, and family-friendly activities.

Be artsy. The Charleston Arts Festival kicked off September 22nd, but several featured events will take place this month. Catch Myth of An Atom October 12 & 13, a live audiovisual performance that fuses hip hop, R&B, future bass, and electronic soundscapes with fluid, sound reactive imagery. The Halloween-themed festival finale on October 28th is an all-encompassing arts extravaganza featuring live dance, comedy, and a costume contest.

Calling all food & drink lovers. Charleston Rum Fest, taking place October 14th, is a night of delicious parings from Charleston’s most creative chefs, great music, and entertainment. Thirty-five different rum-based cocktails will be available for your enjoyment and dozens of global distilleries will be on hand.

Sensational sounds. High-energy performances, authentic cuisine, and a salsa dance contest. Intrigued? Then plan to attend the 26th Annual Latin American Festival at Wannamaker County Park on October 15th. The all-ages event lasts all afternoon and it only costs $10 to join in on some serious fun.

For the dogs. We wouldn’t leave out an event designed for your four-legged family members! Dogtoberfest is in its 11th year and features meet-and-greets with local rescues, a wine tasting, craft beer, and live entertainment. Dogs are encouraged to don their best Halloween attire to enter the costume contest. All proceeds go to participating pet rescues. Mark your calendar for October 28th!
